A beautiful backyard makes us feel good in the eyes and the heart. While some of us will find it very enjoyable to maintain the plants and the flowers, for most of us just want to leave the work for the gardner and enjoy it without the hassle of taking care of it. In the recent years we are seeing more and more stamped concrete integrate in the backyard designs and despite the hard and cold image of concrete, it's important to know that concrete is a very flexible material that is willing to do whatever it is told - adding some color to the grey concrete and acid stain, can transform the backyard from dull and boring to a resort style backyard. Warm concrete colors can be integrated into your garden or yard design and create a different look costumes to your own personality . Today the use of concrete in architecture shows us that concrete should not be gray. Color for include a wide range of colors ranging from the Most durk color to the very light colors. We use different types of color staining for Stamped/ exposed concrete: depends on needs and designs. Water based staining- the color penetrates the concrete and changes it. Its strong, durable, and suitable for areas with heavier traffic or light. Epoxy concrete staining, a very strong suitable for hard areas with heavy traffic, such as garages, parking lots and warehouse. So Concrete floor does not have to be gray it can be stained in any shade of choice. The natural color of concrete is one of its great advantages. It enables the use of concrete staining and turns every gray floor into an impressive and unique decorative surface. The technique we use in the finishing process has an impact on the style of design that will ultimately be received. The color coatings, which are unique to the concrete, add to the floor indoors and outdoors not only beauty but also protection.
Is your Tree Root damages your pavers
Very often our company services pavers driveway or backyard patio that get damage due to Root tree the roots get under the pavers and lift up the stone pushed the pavers out so the pavers are not level with the ground anymore
This also cause to small weeds, to grow between the pavers and loosen the paver joint stabilizer. The root tree causing the pavers damaged. Sometimes the pavers are badly cracked, or disintegrating; and must be replaced, If the pavers are older than occasionally the paver become uneven and it becomes difficult to walk on, and there is risking of tripping and falling. In order to prevent this, there is a need to level up the pavers.
This required a professional knowledge and repairs, The pavers needs to be removed, The root tree needs to be trimmed and all the excessive soil needs to be clear out.
Than the pavers walkway or driveway can be fix and restore.
Get your pavers Ready for winter
The summer is almost over and as we getting back to our daily routine its also time to prepare our backyard pavers to fall and winter.
you might be asking yourself, "Do I even need to be thinking about it? And if yes What do I need to do to get ready my pavers ready for winter?" Although concrete pavers are designed to hold up well through winter weather and thank g-d the weather in california is so mild that it’s not affecting our life quality. There are a few things that need to be considered before the rainy days arrives.
Enzymatic cleaning- Enzymes are not living organisms. Proteins= Enzymes they help break down all natural materials and make them smaller pieces, So basically enzymes allow the microbes to process their food faster. That's why California Clean and Seal uses a bioactive maintenance product that has a combination of microbes and enzymes.Examples of Microbes Doing Their Work Products that include the use of Microbe-based mixtures show to successfully remove those hard to get stains. California Clean and Seal use alternative BIO products to break the oil stains. This allows the microbes to do most of the heavy cleaning by getting rid of all that nasty oil. Oil stains on stamped concrete cannot be removed easily ,oil stains penetrate the concrete, luckily in some situations microbes eat the oil and all the stains left on stamped concrete. Other companies only use harmful chemical based products.
The horizon of Environmental concerns in the recent years has improved greatly which has given no other choice than to use Bioremediation technology,Bioremediation is a "treatment that uses naturally occurring organisms to break down hazardous substances into less toxic or non toxic substances". The use of Bioremediation microbes can get rid of the stains safely and properly without the use of any harsh chemicals.
How Does the Bioremediation Process Work?
Microbes process their 'food' in a way similar to us, They look for their preferred food source, which are usually consists of oils, grease, and urine. Then they digest it and like most creatures on earth, they get rid of the waste, except that in the microbes case their waste is water.
Microbial Cleaning Solutions
For stamped concrete/natural concrete cleaning purposes You can target what needs to be cleaned by choosing a product that contains microbes specifically for that cleaning application.
Just like Humans, microbes like different variety of foods. Some microbes like oil, some like grease. This is why there are bioactive cleaners products for different issues and different surfaces.. A auto body shop, probably will use a cleaning formula that rapidly digest oil to clean the build up oil stains on the concrete.
Bioremediation process works with microbial-based cleaning products. Using microbes also means that you are cleaning with a reduced environmental impact, the use of nature's cleaners are more natural with no chemicals.
CONCRETE CLEANER OR DEGREASERThere are many cleaners available in the market that are designed to clean or remove stains from concrete flooring. Understanding the different cleaners will give a better understanding on which California Clean and Seal uses detergent. We all know that oil and water do not mix, soap consists of fatty acids that emulsify oil, grease, and dirt, allowing the particles to be removed with a water-based solution. Without soap, just plain water doesn't have much cleaning ability. By surrounding and entrapping stubborn oil or organic-based dirt, a soap or cleaner allows the grime to be rinsed away more easily.
There are so many options when it comes to detergents and cleaners to choose from. Some Come up with complex formulas to target one type of dirt.
Even with the best cleaner,i takes a ton of time and patience to get the stain out. Concrete are like pres they pick up dirt and trap it there for a long time, and it can be a tough surface to clean if not done properly. Doing some research and trying a few different systems can really pay off. Once you find the cleaner that really works, you will Cut your cleaning in half.
When to use them: Most cleaners are mainly designed for cleaning interior sealed concrete that does not have dirt locked in. They can also be used on exterior or interior unsealed concrete that only needs a mild cleaning, with no major dirt embedded in.
How they work: These cleaners are usually diluted to change the level of cleaning required. Saturate the concrete surface with the cleaner, then lightly scrub. After a few minutes, vacuum or mop up the remains, followed by rinsing with clean water. If dirt remains, try repeating the process or using a stronger solution.
When to use them: These types of cleaners are strictly used to remove stains, dirt, and contamination that are soluble in an acidic solution. They are especially effective for removing efflorescence on concrete, a white powder called insoluble metallic salt ,it will not wash away in plain water. Exposure to hard water, a high salt content in the concrete, and high soil alkalinity are common causes of these types of stains.
How they work:In acidic cleaners the main ingredient is obviously acid as the active ingredient. They come in both concentrated and ready-to-use formulations and are applied directly to the dirty area. Sometimes scrubbing hard is needed, and stubborn stains may need extra applications. It is critical to neutralize the concrete after cleaning with an acid-based cleaner, followed by a clean-water rinse. Consider using a sealer to protect the area from future alkaline or salt contamination.
Where to get them: California Clean and Seal carries Acid based concrete cleaners which are usually only available at most specialty concrete distribution outlets. Diluting standard muriatic acid is a most common . It is important to know that over-the-counter cleaners like Lime Away and soap-scum removers are designed to clean only certain things and do not contain acid ,so they may not be as effective on concrete.
When to use them: Alkaline cleaners are also known as "concrete degreasers," alkaline cleaners are most often used to destroy oil, grease, or other hydrocarbon-based stains in concrete. The high alkalinity of these cleaners emulsifies, or breaks down, the oily contamination. The other application for alkaline cleaners is to balance concrete surfaces after acid staining or acid cleaning. Concretes natural state is concrete without pH and Alkaline cleaners are the best way to clean the concrete. Modern alkaline soaps and cleaners are much better than the old school baking soda and water. They are economical too, since 1 gallon of cleaner will fully treat approximately 4,000 square feet of concrete.
How they work: Soluble cleaners typically come as concentrates and are diluted with water, depending on how aggressive the stain is. Apply the cleaner full strength for deep or older stains, and dilute it for newer stains that have not penetrated far. The more diluted the stronger it is. In order for the stain to come out aggressive scrubbing may be needed. A common mistake when using soluble cleaners is when you don't wait long enough for the cleaner to work if the stain is older it would need to stay in longer. Another important step when using soluble cleaners is to "lift" the oil stain out of the concrete once the stain has finished cleaning. You can use an industrial wet vac, poultice, or rags. Remove the residue with clean water, and reapply more cleaner if needed until the stain is gone.
When to use them: The newest types of concrete cleaners are those that use organic chemistry and active enzymes to attack, break down, and in some cases digest stains and contamination. They are also known as "oxidation cleaners," with the most popular brand being OxiClean. Oxidation cleaners are made very specifically to break down certain soils, like starch based stains and hydrocarbon based stains. For example clean a dogs little accident on the concrete is a common problem. Using an enzyme cleaner that targets protein (the odor and stain in urine is comprised mostly of protein) is the best way to remove these types of stains. The other type of active cleaner is bacterial. These cleaners use genetically engineered bacteria that actually feed on oil, grease, or hydrocarbons.
How they work: A major benefit to using these types of cleaners is that most do not require water for activation, and there is little or no residue to wash away. The enzyme or bacteria demolishes the stain till it is no more. The biggest drawback is that they require time to work. One simple job can take days or even weeks. Most of these types of cleaners are applied directly to the stain with little or no agitation required. For large or stubborn stains, additional applications may be required.
Specialty cleaners remove specific types of contamination. Examples of these would include rust removers and non-acid-based efflorescence removers. These products can be hard to find, and I have found that their success varies depending on environmental conditions.
How to choose concrete cleaners or remove concrete oil stainsConcrete cleaners: All concrete cleaners clean dirt, grease, grime, graffiti and other dirt or needed to be cleaned areas. All of them are specifically made to clean those things.
The basics to understand about concrete cleaners
Today There are 100's of different modern concrete cleaners and degreasers to choose from. Although not all of them work to remove tough concrete stains. Hard work and patience are really to make any sort of difference when removing a stubborn stain from concrete. Even for those concrete cleaners and concrete degreasers that will work. Even if some concrete cleaners work you might have to scrub for a long time to get the stain out. Concrete is like a little sponge dirt and other substances can get sucked in super easily this is because concrete is porous substances. We’ve summarised concrete cleaners into 4 different types below. 1. Basic concrete cleaners for very mild cleaning
These are the basic cleaners you find in your local hardware store. They are not particularly environmentally friendly and will do the very basic job, as well as using microbes, an alternative non chemical way to clean concrete. They say they are degreasers, but it will take an awful lot of patience to get it off using this basic cleaner.
When to use them: These mild cleaners are for the basic concrete cleaning jobs such as cleaning interior, sealed concrete. The only time to use this is on a floor with a little lees amount of dirt grease or grime. You can also use this on outdoor concrete that only needs very mild cleaning. We do not recommend this kind of cleaner for anything that has a decent amount of dirt and grime, mold or major stains on it.
2. Acid concrete cleaners/ wash for removing Efflorescence on concrete
Acid concrete cleaners
These are best removing stains, dirt, and contamination. For example graffiti, or efflorescence on concrete. Efflorescence on concrete is an calcium/ salt that appears as a white powder or crystalline residue on the concrete surface. It will not wash away in water. we use this with the heavy stains in the concrete.
3. Soluble concrete cleaners for removing oil stains
These types of cleaners are known as concrete degreasers. They get rid of oil, grease, or other hydrocarbon-based stains in concrete.
If you are doing this yourself, you will need to put in LOTS of work(and patience) to properly remove the grease or oil stain.
You must also leave enough time for the soluble concrete cleaner to work.
Depending on how deep the stain is, and what it is, will depend on how much time you need. Also, multiple applications of the concrete cleaner may be needed. This may be up to a few hours or days.
Once the stain has been emulsified with the cleaner, we recommend using an industrial machine to ‘lift’ the oil stain out of the concrete, and then seal so dirt cannot find its way back to where it was.
4. Enzymatic or bacterial concrete cleaners for removing pet urine concrete stains, oil or petrol stains
These are some of the newer types of concrete cleaners on the market. They are designed with active enzymes that break down and digest starch and protein based stains like pet urine; as well as hydrocarbon stains like petrol and oil. These cleaners use bacteria that feed on oil, grease, or hydrocarbons. So they eat the stain until it's no more.
Unlike the cleaners above, you won’t need an additional process to lift the stain with water, once the cleaner is applied. However, you will need to factor in these types of cleaners need a lot of time to work – sometimes days or weeks.
Most of these types of cleaners are applied directly to the stain, and no scrubbing is required.
For large stains you may need to apply more than once, but it takes time to dry so after the multiple coats it may take a couple days.
When should I polish the floor? Not many people know this, but even when the floor condition looks really bad, it doesn't mean that you need to start renovating and removing the old floor and install a new one. One of the most interesting and useful solutions for improving the condition and appearance of the floor is restoration by Floor polishing, Floor polishing can add so much to the interior design of the flooring that sometimes even if your floor condition is in good shape, you should still consider floor polishing it anyway just to get a shiny new look that will greatly improve the appearances of the flooring.
