Stamped Concrete Patios
The most popular choice for homeowners who want the look of natural stone or brick without the maintenance. We stamp patterns directly into freshly poured concrete — flagstone, slate, cobblestone, and wood-plank patterns are the most requested. A UV-stable color hardener prevents fading in direct sun, which matters when your patio faces west.
Brushed and Broom-Finish Concrete
Clean, simple, and slip-resistant. This is the workhorse finish for pool surrounds and areas where kids play. It costs less than decorative options, it’s easy to reseal, and it looks sharp for years. Most of our Poway, Santee, and El Cajon projects use this finish.
Exposed Aggregate
We wash away the top layer of cement paste to reveal the natural stone underneath. The result is a textured, non-slip surface with visual depth that catches light differently throughout the day. It’s a popular choice for modern homes in Encinitas and Solana Beach where the natural aesthetic fits the architecture.
Stained and Colored Concrete
If you already have a concrete patio that’s structurally sound but looks tired, concrete staining can transform it without a tear-out. We use acid stains for rich, variegated earth tones and water-based stains for consistent, saturated color. Both get sealed to protect the finish.
What a Concrete Patio Costs in San Diego
Straight answer: most residential concrete patios in San Diego run between $18+ per square foot, installed. A typical 400-square-foot backyard patio costs between $5,000+, depending on the finish, site conditions, and the extent of demo and grading.
That range covers standard broom-finish at the low end through fully stamped and colored at the high end. Factors that push costs up: hillside lots requiring retaining work, removal of an existing patio, plumbing or electrical for built-in features, and premium decorative finishes.

Backyard Patio Ideas for San Diego Homes
Your patio should work with how you actually use your yard. These are the configurations we build most often:
The outdoor dining room. A 300–400 square-foot slab adjacent to the kitchen with a pergola or shade sail above. Stamped to look like travertine, with embedded conduit for string lights. This is our most requested project in coastal neighborhoods.
The pool surround. Brushed concrete extending 4–6 feet around the pool perimeter with a contrasting stamped or exposed-aggregate border. We slope it exactly right so water drains away from the pool and away from the house — a detail that cheap installs get wrong and that causes expensive problems later.
The fire pit patio. A circular or square slab with a gas or wood-burning fire pit as the centerpiece, surrounded by built-in concrete seating. Popular in inland areas like Poway and Rancho Bernardo where evenings cool down enough to enjoy it year-round.
The side-yard conversion. That narrow strip of dirt between your house and the fence? A 100–200 square-foot concrete pad with a bistro table and some container plants turns dead space into a quiet morning coffee spot. One of the best value-per-dollar projects we do.
Why Concrete Over Pavers or Wood Decking
We install pavers too, and we’ll tell you when they’re the better choice. But for most San Diego patios, poured concrete wins on three counts:
Maintenance. A sealed concrete patio needs resealing every 2–3 years. Pavers need sand swept back in, weed treatment, and individual replacements when they crack or shift. Wood decks need annual staining, board replacement, and eventual structural repair. Over a ten-year span, concrete maintenance costs about a third of pavers and a quarter of wood.
Longevity. A properly poured and reinforced concrete patio lasts 25–30 years before it needs major work. In San Diego’s mild climate without freeze-thaw cycles, we’ve seen slabs last even longer.
Design flexibility. Stamped concrete can replicate nearly any material — stone, brick, tile, wood — at a fraction of the cost, with none of the grout lines, shifting, or individual-piece failures.
Our Process: From First Call to Finished Patio
Here’s what happens when you contact us:
Step 1: Site visit and estimate. We come to your property, measure the area, assess soil and drainage, discuss your design preferences, and provide a written quote — usually within 48 hours of your call.
Step 2: Design confirmation. We finalize the finish, color, pattern (if stamped), and any built-in features. You see samples of the actual materials, not just photos.
Step 3: Prep and pour. We excavate, compact, set forms, lay rebar or wire mesh, and pour. Most residential patios are poured in a single day.
Step 4: Finish and cure. Stamping, coloring, or texturing happens while the concrete is still workable. Then we protect the surface during the 7-day cure period.
Step 5: Seal and handoff. Once cured, we apply a penetrating or topical sealer (depending on the finish), walk you through care instructions, and hand over your warranty documentation.
Most patio projects from first call to finished surface take 2–3 weeks, with 1–2 days of actual on-site work.
